The future ain't what it used to be
In a world where continual uncertainty and perpetual change are
the norm in the global marketplace, achieving or even just maintaining
sustainable economic value is becoming increasingly difficult to
achieve.
Nothing
seems to stand still anymore. Market dynamics are continually
shifting and customer expectations are rising almost exponentially.
It
seems that only those organisations that are prepared to be brave
in thought and action can best react to the new world order.
Many leading edge organisations are starting to realise that operational
excellence alone is no longer a source of long term competitive
advantage but merely a ticket for staying in the game. Yet many
companies continue to rest on their laurels and rely on management
thinking and direction setting based on past experience rather
than on current reality or future possibilities. It takes time,
effort, and above all focused determination for an organisation
to step back from itself and start the process of challenging
the fundamentals of what it does and why it does it.
Now here lies the problem, how can an organisation make time to
really challenge itself when the issues of today need addressing?
If an organisation cannot manage to create the space to challenge
itself that’s probably when external support and guidance
is needed.
